Mayor marks triple celebration at Tapton Park.

A special event has been held to mark a triple celebration at Chesterfield's Tapton Park Golf Course.

The Lord Mayor of the town, Cllr Fred Quayle, was on hand to officially open new facilities following a £170,000 investment by course operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV).

As part of a ten-week refurbishment programme, improvements include a redeveloped function room and upgrades to the clubhouse, locker room and other course facilities.

The course is home to Tapton Park Golf Club, which is this year celebrating its 75th anniversary and was recently named Club of the Year in a national awards ceremony.

The award was presented by Golfmark in recognition of the club's outstanding and innovative contribution to junior and beginner golf.

Andy Carnall, SIV's golf manager, said: "Tapton Park is a first class course and has been brought right up to date with these improvements, just in time for the new golf season.

"Since taking over operations in April last year, SIV has already implemented an ongoing ground maintenance programme, which is making a huge difference to the quality of the course. This event was a fantastic way to mark the official opening, as well as celebrate the club's Golfmark award and milestone anniversary."

Tapton Park is the only pay and play golf course in Chesterfield and has more than 400 members, which includes a thriving ladies section and junior section.

And Andy hopes that the new facility will help junior golfers to develop their talents even further.

"As leaders in junior and beginner golf we are very committed to development in those areas and many of our activities echo that.

"It is important for the future growth of the sport to nurture talent and encourage people to get involved. We have a unique set up at Tapton Park and an incredibly hard working team there."

SIV operates 14 sport and entertainment facilities in the region, including three other golf courses - Beauchief Golf Course, Birley Wood Golf Course and Tinsley Park Golf Course, which together with Tapton deliver 200,000 rounds per year.
